The world has been defined by man to be for man.
Placing humans at the center of the world is called anthropocentrism.
It allows humans to regard animals as “natural resources”, as objects for human use.
This anthropocentric view of the world has resulted in environmental destruction. Mountains, rivers, savannahs and entire rainforests, are nothing more than material possessions, objects to satisfy man’s hunger for control.
Environmentalists protect the environment for themselves! They want to keep watching endangered species for their interests, not for the sake of reducing these animals’ suffer. An animal from an endangered species suffer is not more significant than the suffer of any other animal. Environmentalists do not care about the suffer of individual animals.
Environmentalists are no different. Almost all the environmentalists we have met consume meat, eggs, dairy products, leather, coffee, cocoa, tobacco etc. Most of them drive a car too. All are environmentally destructive industries.
There is no other way to explain environmentalists that consume animal products, which are the number one cause of ecological damages, other than selfishness, hypocrisy and anthropocentrism.
Rainforests for example are a primary concern of anthropocentric environmentalists for many reasons, which reveal their human-centered bias. They complain that species of plants and animals are becoming extinct as the forests are destroyed. Why is that important? Because humans might lose potentially beneficial medicinal plants. Also, the loss of animal species reduces the world’s gene pool and robs humans of rich, varied biological resources. They cry for saving the rainforests, because what they see as "their planet" depends on it.
Environmentalists care more about keeping the wild available for human leisure than about the destruction of the animals habitat and their suffer.
They enjoy the tall trees, clean air, clean rivers and lakes. They value the way nature makes them feel. They believe in saving a forest, because they like to hike in it. They plead for saving a particular river, because they like to fish in it. Environmentalists don’t care about the earth residents, they do it for themselves.
Earth, nature and the environment are notions, concepts, not sentient creatures.
They can’t feel. The earth doesn’t suffer, its inhabitants do.
The earth doesn’t care that it is getting warmer and it doesn’t care that the ozone layer is being depleted.
The rivers don’t mind that they are being polluted, it’s the residents that mind.
The suffer of every sentient creature is meaningful and every consumption causes suffer. That is the reason to manage a simple and "green" life.
You should live like this because of the animals (humans and non-humans), not because of earth or nature. You should live like this because destroying the environment is just another form of animal abuse.
Since the earth doesn’t suffer and the rainforests don’t feel pain, the actions “for the environment” are actually actions “for” the residents. But environmentalists protect the environment in a selective and inconsecutive way. The meat eater environmentalist exploits and tortures some species while trying to help others. Environmentalists who consume animal products are irrational and inconsistent. They harm much more than they help.
- Cattle is the primary source of water pollution in the U.S. they produce nearly 1 billion tons of organic waste each year.
- One-half of all the energy used in American agriculture is used to produce meat.
- Producing a kilo of feedlot beef takes about 50 times more water than a kilo of Soya beans or rice. The amount of water used to produce a single hamburger is enough for 17 showers.
- Rainforests are being destroyed at a rate of 125,000 square miles per year to create space to raise animals for food.
- Factory farms dump into rivers and streams 130 times more fecal matter than the entire human population.
Don’t bother the environmentalists with facts and figures.
They are not into rational arguments.
Factory farming is an environmental death sentence, what makes many environmentalists the environment executers. If we can’t even count on the ones who are supposed to be our natural allies, what hope do the animals have?
